A meeting of the Association was held in the Kensington Arms with 23 people present including both ward councillors. These are extracts from the minutes.
A CNA noticeboard is planned. A Neighbourhood Partnership grant to cover the costs has been approved. The noticeboard would ideally be located on the railings by the war memorial. Ellie is still trying to make contact with the management company for the converted church apartments to get approval to locate the board.
Chandos Street Party – Di explained that the date has been set by the Traders Assoc as Sunday 25th Sept. The Traders are keen to get local people involved in performing on the stages or running stalls (non-food only). Any members keen to get involved should contact Di who can pass on their details to the organising committee. It was suggested to involve local schools and Uni students.
Halloween – Catrin explained that we planned to run a pumpkin carving competition displayed on residents steps/front gardens/etc. The date has been set as Saturday 29th October. Mabel’s Greengrocers is happy to promote/support the event. Leaflets/posters about the event will be handed out/displayed at the Street Party.
Xmas Carols – after last year’s successful event, the Traders would like to be involved to make a wider Xmas event (mince pies/ food, Santa’s Grotto, raffles, stick beard on Santa, etc). A date has been agreed as Saturday 10th December at lunchtime.
Winter Window Wanderland – after this year’s successful event and the interest shown by local residents to get involved next year, Catrin explained that we want to continue to grow this event, hopefully getting student houses to participate. Dates set as 18th/19th February (avoiding a clash with Rugby fixtures and the Bishopston event).
There was a question and answer session with the councillors during which issues of parking permits and bays, student numbers, overgrown hedges, mess after bin collections and weed killing were raised.
